Beginner Optimist class targets children who have completed the pre-sail program and are at least seven years old. Children who participate in the beginner level Optimist class may be eligible for Green Fleet racing at summer regattas with coaches approval. Specific activities and objectives will be arranged based on skill and experience. Students are required to bring their own Optimist.
Pre-sailing class will be a learn-to-sail program open to children age five and older. Appropriate objectives will be made to provide meaningful, informative, and fun activities for the children. Children must pass a swim test to participate in this program. Activities include dry land instruction and games as well as on water activities. Children do not have to own an Opti to participate. We hope to develop their sailing skills and knowledge of the water in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. The goal is to provide a positive experience for every child.
Youth Clinics for the Week of 06/26
• 420 Class - In order to participate in the 420 program, students are recommended to weigh at least 95 pounds, and have a minimum total crew weight of 220 pounds. Instructors will advise students/parents on the appropriate time for sailors to transition from the Optimist to 420 sailing program. If unsure, please contact the head instructors directly.
Intermediate/Advanced Opti class is designed for children who have experience with basic sailing skills and want to learn to be a better sailor. The intermediate/advanced sailors should be ready to compete in the Red/White/Blue fleets for the summer 2021 racing season. Specific activities and objectives will be based on skill and experience. It is necessary to have coaches approval before joining this class level. Students are required to bring their own Optimist.

The Shields Fleet 19 races every Thursday night (weather permitting) during the TNPs. The first race will take place on June 29th. Racing continues through August 31. Races start at 1715 hours (5:15 pm).
