The MIYC Invitational Regatta

The MIYC Invitational Regatta is held each August on either the third or fourth Saturday. Registration usually opens 60 days before the date of the regatta. The regatta is open to Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker boats with valid PHRF or ORC certificates. Time-on-time handicapping will be used. One-design classes with four or more entries will be started as separate classes.

Courses will be selected to suit the prevailing conditions. The Race Committee will endeavor to post a Windward-Leeward course for Spinnaker and One-design classes and reserves the right to run two races. Non-Spinnaker will sail a course consisting of government and/or set marks.

MIYC Junior Regatta

Each year MIYC holds invitational junior sailing regattas, usually sailed in Optimists and 420s, where all Junior racers from neighboring sailing clubs are invited to register to attend. The schedule of the Junior regattas for each season is coordinated by the Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association (ECSA), the 2024 ECSA calendar is available here.   The 2024 MIYC Opti Regatta will be held on Tuesday July 30th.

On July 25th, 2023, Masons Island hosted their annual Opti Regatta, where area clubs from southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island came to compete.  This was the largest of junior events held all summer with 100 sailors registered and racing in Fishers Island Sound.  Fortunately, we had beautiful weather and a steady breeze all day.  Two race courses were set up for the juniors to race.  Racers and families were treated to a shore side barbeque for lunch and ice pops to cool off with during awards.  It was a tremendous day!  Thank you to all the volunteers, sailors and parents who made this day a highlight of the summer!

Please check with the Head Sailing Instructor for more information on upcoming Junior Regattas and how to register for a Junior Regatta.
